Supporting our software engineers and engineering leadership as we accelerate towards the delivery of a truly differentiated customer experience and a purpose-led, customer-centric culture.

Lead collaboratively towards defining standards, processes and behavioural changes required to ensure consistency, quality and speed is built into our teams and culture.

The Chapter Area Lead Software Engineering (CAL SE) leads by influence and works with fellow CAL’s for Product Ownership, Quality Engineering and Platform Engineering. Collectively you drive us towards better outcomes through improved alignment and efficiencies at the enterprise scale.

**Key focus areas of a CAL**:

- Leadership - Develop the vision and delivery roadmap for process and behavioural change. Coach all engineers to high performance and success
- Engagement - Build and maintain effective relationships and engagement with stakeholders across the organisation
- Collaborate - Work with other leaders to identify and solve talent and capability opportunities; co-ordinate with your peers across technology
- Facts & Data - Use data, iteration and strong fact bases to influence your peers and the wider technology organisation in the direction we need to go

**Responsibilities include**:

- Ensuring strategic alignment with the wider organisation
- Effectively managing stakeholder expectations, especially Executive Leadership and your SGO, Tech Area Lead and Chapter Area Lead peers
- Owning and evangelising excellent cybersecurity practices as a key element of all that we do
- Acting as the escalation point for resolution of cross portfolio dependencies
- Ensuring appropriate risk controls are identified, applied and automated

**What we're looking for**:

- Experienced life as a technology contributor in a large enterprise - knows the good, the bad and the ugly of delivering to customers in this type of environment
- Understand the complexity inherent in engineering at an enterprise scale:

- Engineering standards - including the importance of high level standards all the way down to details like linting, variable declaration patterns and shared libraries
- Quality - unit testing & end to end testing and how responsibility is shared across all engineering roles
- Patterns - you recoil at the thought of teams inventing their own wheels
- Architecture - understanding the key elements of architecture and being able to tie engineering & architecture together towards a quality customer outcome
- You have a vision of what good looks like in this space. You can explain it from executive level down to individual contributor and most importantly: you align the people, budgets and dependencies required to make this vision a reality
- Energy, drive and resilience

You have a can-do attitude and are excited about growing talented people and teams to achieve outcomes in ways they never thought possible. You truly understand that high performance is built on individuals coming together as a team, and that the team is greater than the sum of its parts. You are experienced in delivering a true customer/service led approach and can coach and mentor individuals and teams to do the same.

For these roles it is a given that you will possess both technology and business management skills, having built a successful career in a technology domain and delivering business value through technology.
