Listening, learning, changing/ Mā Whakarongo me Ako ka huri te tai. This captures the spirit the Government brings to its work with the Royal Commission, and to what we, the Crown Response Unit does in response to the Royal Commission's recommendations.

Our purpose | To mātou Kaupapa

The Crown Response Unit coordinates the Government's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Our current work programme is focused on responding to the Royal Commission's interim report that recommended the development of a new independent redress system for survivors.

The Commission also recommended, and the Government agreed to four immediate pieces of work ahead of the establishment of the new independent redress system. These are:

- Establishing a service for survivors to share their experiences of abuse in care
- Improving survivor's access to their care records
- Progressing rapid payments for historical abuse claimants
- Work on a public apology to survivors.

About the role | Mō te tūranga

The Chief Advisor Pacific is responsible for advising the CRU on embedding Pacific survivor and family voices, experience, expertise, and culture within the Crown Response Unit's different areas of focus. The role will also engage with other Pacific experts and advisors in agencies, organisations, and communities and will support the strengthening of relationships between CRU and Pasifika communities, including survivors.

The Chief Advisor Pacific will contribute to developing an integrated, independent holistic redress system that acknowledges the harm and trauma people have experienced in care and supports them to improve their wellbeing. This process will involve engaging with key interested parties in a collaborative design process and be accountable for helping to ensure policy and operational decisions are developed in an integrated way and appropriately acknowledges the voice of Pasifika survivors.

- An understanding of the non-government sector (NGO) and the public sector context within which the CRU works.
