Are you a principal advisor, experienced senior advisor or senior lawyer looking for a unique opportunity within a one-of-a-kind organisation? Do you want to make a difference and be challenged intellectually by being involved in a range of work supporting enduring change in the courts?
As a member of the Office of the Chief Justice, you will work to support the Chief High Court Judge in her statutory function to ensure the orderly and efficient conduct of the High Court's business. You will work closely with the Chief Judge in the style of a Private Secretary across the broad span of High Court and wider institutional projects. You will also work with other colleagues in the Office of the Chief Justice to contribute to a range of transformative projects and work programmes being jointly led by the judiciary and Ministry of Justice.
You will have a positive attitude and be relationship-focussed, detail-oriented and extremely organised. You will love the variety and the opportunity to work to develop your skills in a collaborative team environment with other staff supporting the Chief Judge.

To be successful in the role you will need to be customer-focussed and able to relate to a wide range of people at all levels. You will have:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including an ability to synthesise complex material.
- Considerable and proven experience in the provision of high level and complex policy advice.
- Comprehensive understanding of the separation of powers and in particular of the judicial arm of government.
- Knowledge and understanding of information governance in the context of the courts (or a willingness to learn).
- An understanding of how the courts and judiciary operate, and how ministries and ministers operate.
- Able to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships and effective networks across and within organisations.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people.
- Ability to successfully organise work, priorities, meet deadlines, maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on complex issues.
- Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities.
- Able to distil and provide insight on a range of issues and communicate this effectively.
You will be:

**Mō mātou/**About us**
Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawā | The Office of the Chief Justice (Te Tari) supports the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of the High Court, and other Heads of Bench in their leadership and administrative responsibilities - to enable the judiciary to function as an independent branch of government.
The judiciary as an institution, and the Chief Justice and Heads of Bench as its leaders, have a unique responsibility to maintain the public's trust and confidence in the courts and the principles underpinning the justice system. We provide advisory, legal, governance, administration communications and operations support for the senior courts and education services to all courts.
The Office also supports the implementation of work programmes, processes and procedures, to put the Principles observed by Judiciary and Ministry in the Administration of the Courts (also known as the MOU), into practice.
Some key strands of work relevant to this role are:
- Implementing a more established and considered governance framework for the judicial arm of government.
- Providing advice, recommendations and support to the Chief Judge and to the wider judiciary as required
- Growing the partnership approach with the Ministry of Justice in accordance with the MOU to reflect the principles upon which the MOU is built.
- Providing analysis, quality assurance and advice to ensure operational, policy and law reform initiatives progressed by the Ministry of Justice and other agencies meet the expectations of the judiciary.
- Reporting and analysing trends, of current events, and relevant organisational context in order to prioritise work, identify risks and engage with the judiciary.
- Playing a part in the development of Te Tari Toko i Te Tumu Whakawā's business planning and administrative arrangements.
