Metering Engineer
**We are growing our dedicated Metering Applications team**:
- **Make a difference to WEL’s digital future**:
- **We offer flexible working and medical, life and income protection cover**
**About WEL Networks**
With around 300 employees WEL Networks, owned by and working for the community, has been serving the Waikato for over 100 years, distributing power from the national grid, connecting over 160,000 people to electricity services.
Based in Hamilton, we play an essential role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies that will modernise our network and future-proof our region. We’re excited to be broadening our horizons as we diversify from a traditional lines company.
We are looking for skilled, innovative and enthusiastic individuals to join our team in supporting the company through this exciting new chapter and into the future.
**About the team**
WEL led the way with its roll out of smart meters across its network over 10 years ago and our metering team manages the metering assets, performance of metering assets, collection of meter data and leadership of field measurement functions - providing dedicated, specialised focus given meter data’s strategic importance to WEL’s digital future.
**About the role**
If successful in this role, you will initially provide engineering support to the team who are bringing the management of the Metering Headend into WEL. Once that project is delivered, you will revert to your BAU role, taking ownership of the metering assets, writing the metering asset strategy, and providing key inputs into our AMP and annual business planning processes. You will understand the overall metering solution and work with other team members to deliver metering data improvements required by the wider business teams.
**About you**
Along with an engineering degree or other relevant Level 7 tertiary qualification, we are looking for someone who brings us a minimum of three years’ industry experience.
Although not critical, we would love it if you had experience in any of the following fields:
- Smart meter systems
- Network management system design and configuration
- Metering data management
- Asset management
- PLC, load control, comms networks
- Electrical engineering.
What is very important, is that you bring a collaborative approach to problem solving and sharing knowledge as well as a holistic and proactive approach to safety, health, and wellbeing.
**Staff Benefits**
At WEL, we look after our people - from full medical, life and income protection insurance cover, and a variety of flexible working options, to the safest equipment and plenty of upskilling opportunities. We will also help you with relocation expenses when moving into the Waikato.
We are committed to making sure our people go home safe every day, and with a drug and alcohol-free worksite we will require you to undertake testing as part of your pre-employment health assessment as well as participating in our annual health assessment programme.
