Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand WEL Networks Full time

We are growing our Asset Management team and need 3 new specialists:

  • We will provide you with tools and systems not available elsewhere in NZ:
-
We offer flexible working and medical, life and income protection cover

About WEL Networks

With around 300 employees WEL Networks, owned by and working for the community, has been serving the Waikato for over 100 years, distributing power from the national grid, connecting over 160,000 people to electricity services.

Based in Hamilton, we play an essential role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies that will modernise our network and future-proof our region.

We're excited to be broadening our horizons as we diversify from a traditional lines company into a multi-utility / Distribution System Operator (DSO).

We are looking for skilled, innovative, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team in supporting the company through this exciting new chapter and into the future.

About the team
The Asset Management team at WEL is increasing our skill sets to address the decarbonisation challenge facing NZ.

We have been recognised by our peers at the EEA conference with the People's Choice paper for our work associated with Distributed Energy Resources (DER) management and our journey of transition to a true DSO.

Because of our investment in metering, and our work around DER and DSO, we have access to tools and information not available elsewhere in New Zealand.

With this, and our investment in additional skill sets, you will be joining a team that will set a new standard for asset management within New Zealand.

About the role

As a Lifecyle Engineer you will have asset ownership of a key asset class for our network - we have three to cover - underground cables, overhead lines and distribution equipment.

You will be responsible for ensuring the optimal balance between asset lifecycle cost and network reliability.

This will include development of a digital twin, FEMCA and CBRM analysis, review of network data, setting maintenance standards and investigation of failures.

About you
Along with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (or an equivalent qualification) we are looking for someone who brings us:

  • A minimum of three years' experience in a distribution environment working on long life assets
  • A collaborative approach to problem solving and sharing knowledge
  • A holistic and proactive approach to safety, health, and wellbeing

Staff Benefits

At WEL, we look after our people - from full medical, life and income protection insurance cover, and a variety of flexible working options, to the safest equipment and plenty of upskilling opportunities.

We will also help you with relocation expenses when moving into the Waikato.

We are committed to making sure our people go home safe every day, and with a drug and alcohol-free worksite we will require you to undertake testing as part of your pre-employment health assessment as well as participating in our annual health assessment programme.
