-

About WEL Networks

With around 300 employees WEL Networks, owned by and working for the community, has been serving the Waikato for over 100 years, distributing power from the national grid, connecting over 160,000 people to electricity services.

Based in Hamilton, we play an essential role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies that will modernise our network and future-proof our region.

We're excited to be broadening our horizons as we diversify from a traditional lines company into a multi-utility.

We are looking for skilled, innovative and enthusiastic individuals to join our team in supporting the company through this exciting new chapter and into the future.

About the team
The Asset Management team at WEL is increasing our skill sets to address the decarbonisation challenge facing NZ.

We have been recognised by our peers at the EEA conference with the People's Choice paper for our work associated with DER management and our journey to a DSO.

Because of our investment in metering, and our work around DER and DSO, we have access to tools and information not available elsewhere in New Zealand.

With this, and our investment in additional skill sets, you will be joining a team that will set a new standard for asset management within New Zealand.

About the role

In this new role, reporting directly to our Asset Strategy & Engineering Manager, you will be undertaking technical feasibility studies and managing large DG and large customer load connection projects to our network.

Creating standards, identifying and forecasting network congestion, and integrating smart meter data sets into network planning decisions, will all form part of your role.

Working collaboratively across our Asset Management group and with Transpower and other external bodies will be key to delivering in this role.

About you
Along with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (or an equivalent qualification) we are looking for someone who brings us:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in power system engineering
  • Power system modelling experience including load flow, voltage, and thermal constraint mitigation, motor starting and dynamic simulations
  • Sound analytical skills using MS Excel, VBA etc
  • A collaborative approach to problem solving and sharing knowledge
  • A holistic and proactive approach to safety, health, and wellbeing

Staff Benefits

At WEL, we look after our people - from full medical, life and income protection insurance cover, and a variety of flexible working options, to the safest equipment and plenty of upskilling opportunities.

We will also help you with relocation expenses when moving into the Waikato.

We are committed to making sure our people go home safe every day, and with a drug and alcohol-free worksite we will require you to undertake testing as part of your pre-employment health assessment as well as participating in our annual health assessment programme.
