We are seeking a strategic communications and stakeholder engagement guru with political nous, highly attuned antennae, and strength in storytelling. Reporting to the Associate Deputy Secretary, Immigration, you will work closely with senior leaders and the minister’s office to shape our public narrative about the immigration system, so that our organisation is transparent, responsive to emerging issues, and talking to our audiences in plain language that they can understand.

Your background in media, communications and/or public relations, combined with the ability to quickly understand, and explain for a wide audience, the often complex issues which manifest in the immigration system, will set you up for success in this role.

You’ll bring vision, exceptional relationship skills and an extensive understanding of the New Zealand public sector to successfully:

- Develop and implement a comprehensive public information strategy for the immigration system;
- Understand the context, the authorising environment and our multiple audiences in order to deliver messages with impact;

This role will be largely Wellington-based. However, MBIE supports a wide range of flexible working arrangements. Talk to us about what might work for both you and us.

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- A strong understanding of New Zealand’s machinery of government arrangements, and experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with ministers, ministers’ offices, senior public officials, internal and external stakeholders, and media representatives.
- Highly developed business acumen and strategic analysis skills with a proven ability to interpret data to understand audience behaviour and needs to tailor the communications approach accordingly.
- Broad knowledge of media, public relations, communications and stakeholder engagement disciplines and processes including latest development in communications practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management and influencing skills.
- Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and have the ability to gain and maintain security clearance. Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE - About MBIE:
