Mō te tūnga | About the role
Decisions are made every day affecting the safety and security of our Service personnel, New Zealanders and people overseas. Understanding the future demand for data, analytics and information management (DAIM) within the NZDF's strategic capabilities is critical to direct effort where it matters, and delivers the greatest benefit for decision makers.
This role is part of the Knowledge and Information Management Directorate (KIMD) with the New Zealand Defence Force. We're developing a team to design and deliver a DAIM function that is appropriate to our context as a military organisation utilising a vast and growing body of data and information unlike any other in New Zealand.
You will be responsible for delivering DILM capability (including people capability, process, technology, change and culture) across the NZDF to enable a cohesive approach to managing and preserving the NZDF's data and information assets.
**Duties for this role will include**:
- Leading NZDF's DILM assurance activities to support compliance with the NZDF's legal, regulatory and partner obligations;
- Delivering a DILM consultancy service to the NZDF to ensure effective and compliant management and preservation of the NZDF's data and information assets (both digital and physical) and ensure the NZDF's DILM practices keep pace with new trends and technology;
- Being NZDF's expert on how relevant legislation (including the NZ Public Records Act 2005) can inform DILM at an enterprise level; and
- Being an integral member of the DAIM community across the NZDF providing coaching and training to support the maturing of the NZDF's DAIM people capability.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
We are looking for a talented Senior Analyst with a strong understanding of information and records management to join our team. You are someone who has the resiliency and tenacity to navigate the fluidity and uncertainty that comes with delivering the transformational change required in the NZDF's DAIM landscape.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in information management, and/or the equivalent work experience in managing physical and digital records preferably within the NZ public sector;
- An ability to focus on the aspects of data and information lifecycle management that deliver value and benefit to an organisation without getting caught up in delivering the perfect solution;
- Experience managing an end to end process from identifying a business need, designing a robust solution, driving the required change to behaviours and work practices and successfully delivering a fit for purpose outcome;
- Credibility with peers and decision makers to enable you to work collaboratively with disparate stakeholders;
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills working with a variety of stakeholders to understand their information needs and articulate requirements clearly and concisely;
- Effective and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, including ability to explain complex concepts simply;
- Knowledge of the NZDF or a keen interest to learn;
- Good working knowledge of relevant legislation (including the NZ Public Records Act 2005) and best practice principles; and
- Experience implementing an organisation's Disposal Authority.
Mō mātou | About Us
The NZDF Strategy positions data and information as a strategic asset and as a key enabler to operational effectiveness and the integration of the Defence Force through the provision of quality data and information for decision making.
The Knowledge and Information Management Directorate provides leadership and expertise on how the NZDF can better govern, manage and exploit its data and information for best effect. We are also working to build our people capability to turn our Vision into reality: Know what we know; know where to find it; value what we've found, and exploit what we value.
Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand. As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.
Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you
In return for your expertise, dedication and hard work, NZDF is offering remuneration reflective of your experience, along with:
- Great benefits for you and your family.
- Full time ongoing work.
- Fully funded life cover up to $300,000.
- 5 weeks annual leave per year.
