Work cross enterprise leading our Protection and Automation asset portfolio
- Five-year funding cycles. Enjoy working between strategy and technical detail
- Bring your outstanding people leadership and influencing skills
- Deliver best whole of life outcomes incl. cost, risk management and cross-portfolio efficiencies. $5B of nationally critical assets_
Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.
**About the team**
Transpower's Grid Development division works to identify grid needs for the next 30 years. The Asset Planning team of thirty-five people across six teams are responsible for the management of assets within specific asset portfolios. The teams undertake planning and support for Transpower's assets from the implementation of asset strategies into asset management plans through ensuring the appropriate balance of cost, risk, and service.
At the centre of the energy transition - we are more than front row seats, we are in there, directing how this happens, how fast, ironing out problems and providing innovative ideas.
**The opportunity - Lead our Protection and Automation Asset Planning team**
Based ideally in Wellington (however Christchurch may be considered), you'll provide leadership across the organisation in how we plan and spend our investment resources to deliver for consumers and customer connections.
Leading a team of five planners who look after portfolios within Protection & Automation: secondary and substation automation assets, you'll oversee and integrate the regulatory control period RCP4 | Transpower envelope for the Protection and Automation asset portfolio. This includes replacement and refurbishment base CAPEX budget of approximately $300m across each five-year RCP, as well as maintenance OPEX of $10m per annum (determined annually based on need), and enhancement and development base CAPEX of approximately $18m across each RCP.
You'll coach and mentor your team to ensure best whole of life outcomes across the portfolios, including portfolio cost and risk management, and consideration of cross-portfolio integration efficiencies. You'll enjoy multifaceted, meaningful work as you:
- Lead and guide the development and integration across the portfolio and Transpower's wider investment plan, including capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX).
- Reduce service risk through targeted interventions in all portfolios.
- Lead and guide change management and continuous improvement
- Implement new technology as required whilst maintaining a long-term asset management view.
You'll be pivotal to delivering some other exciting work too including supporting implementation of digital substations in green/brown fields environments, and support for and development of asset strategies.
As a member of our Asset Planning Group Leadership team, you'll support the Group Manager with leadership, development, and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives and training as the need arises.
**What will you bring?**
An astute collaborator, and an asset management professional (someone who has been in the detail but doesn't get lost in detail at present), you love to take on abstract challenges. A creator and driver of forward work plans, you'll be known for delivering on requirements at pace.
**To be shortlisted your CV, cover letter and career to date will demonstrate**:
- Asset management competency and preferably external asset management endorsement through IAM, CPEng, or similar
- Experience and technical understanding of protection and automation assets within the energy industry
- Strength and experience in line management and people leadership and effecting change within and across teams
- Demonstrate ability to create productive networks across a business and influence decision making
- Outstanding ability to move and deliver between strategy and detail with ease
**Join us at Transpower**
Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here. Every home, every marae, every electric vehicle, every hospital relies on the electricity we manage and deliver. This is your opportunity to join us on a mission that affects all New Zealanders, every day and long into the future.
**Next steps**
Reasonable accommodation is available to suit your personal circumstances on request.
**_ Existing eligibility to work in New Zealand is desirable._**
