Tennis New Zealand is the governing body for tennis in New Zealand, overseeing the sport's management and administration in the country. The dedicated team at Tennis New Zealand organizes numerous local and international tennis events, including the prestigious ASB Classic.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This role focuses on contributing to the advancement and supervision of strength and conditioning within the Athlete Development Pathway. It primarily revolves around ensuring the physical well-being and fitness of athletes within Tennis New Zealand's National Programme and steering the direction for strength and conditioning at a national level in tennis.

The position involves employing relevant sports science and medical assistance to optimize outcomes for athletes and coaches. Effective communication and collaboration with key stakeholders within Tennis New Zealand, both internally and externally, are essential aspects of this role.

KPIs

  • Guide athletes to meet set athlete development criteria alongside on-court coaching staff.
  • Aid athletes in achieving individual physical performance targets established by the physical performance coach and on-court coaching team.
  • Oversee the physical performance plans of designated athletes and formulate developmental priorities covering all skill enhancement areas.
  • Uphold national standards and expectations, particularly relating to the strategic approach and national philosophy on strength and conditioning in tennis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Devise and execute evidence-based physical performance programs for designated athletes, specifically those in the TNZ National Programme.
  2. Cultivate connections and exert influence over the network of strength and conditioning service providers involved in athlete development across New Zealand.
  3. Establish resources and external partnerships to support player progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold tertiary qualifications in Human Movement and/or a certification in Strength & Conditioning (mandatory).
  • Display practical experience in strength and conditioning within elite sports, preferably with tennis players (mandatory).
  • Possess current first aid certification (mandatory).
  • Valid national police check and/or working with children check (mandatory).
  • Obtain a postgraduate qualification in Strength and Conditioning or equivalent, or demonstrate willingness and capability to acquire such qualifications.
  • Preference for graduate qualifications in massage and/or myotherapy.

Given the demanding nature of this role and the sport environment, flexibility for work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, is imperative.
