About the opportunity

  • Our Te Rapa plant is a dynamic flagship manufacturing site that produces whole and skim milk, and instant whole milk powders along with cream, butter, pure dairy milk fat, cream cheese and frozen cream products.

This is a brilliant time to be joining our Te Rapa site as Maintenance Manager as we have an exciting volume of projects to be involved in and you'll also shape what the future of our maintenance team looks like and lead improvement with asset management practices.

As a key member of our site leadership and operations team you'll provide hands on leadership, mentoring and coaching to our highly skilled Maintenance Team to enable the achievement of our engineering strategy and world class standards in health and safety, food safety and quality, asset management and continuous improvement.

You'll lead the Maintenance team's strategic direction and delivery while having accountability for world class standards in our Fonterra strategy.

You'll also take ownership of the Business Centred Maintenance programme, reduction/ improvement plans and deployment of our asset care programme.


Core responsibilities include:

  • Building a high performing team environment and fostering a culture of high engagement and collaboration with a continuous improvement focus
  • Driving improvement with asset management maturity, including Maintenance Planning and Scheduling performance
  • Optimising site repairs, maintenance budget and major service contracts
  • Supporting the plant in the development and maintenance of a 10 year asset management improvement plan
  • Delivering sustainable financial and capital management performance driven by long term strategic business and capital plans
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities to maximise delivery and minimize variability
  • Build long term partnerships that create value with our customers, suppliers and contractors.

About you

  • You'll be a natural people leader with strong coaching abilities who has previous experience in implementing best practice systems and processes to meet the asset care needs of a site while bringing innovative thought leadership and collaboration to a highly engaged team

Other key attributes include:

  • Proven understanding of maintenance management processes and an engineering project management background.
  • People leadership and management, with experience in engaging a unionised workforce
  • Strategic mindset with an effective communication style
  • Sound commercial acumen with previous budgeting experience
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principals
  • A background in Dairy or FMCG would be highly regarded but not essential
  • Exposure to IWS would also be beneficial.
  • Trade qualification or degree.
