Calling innovative kaiako and educators

E nga mana, e nga reo, ko Te Papa Tongarewa te pa e tu watawata mai ana nga taonga o te Motu ki Te Upoko-o-Te-Ika.

Papaki mai ana nga tai o Te Whanganui-a-Tara, ko Pukeahu, ko Matairangi nga taumata korero.

Ka tangi te Keo ki nga mate o nga hau e wha, moe mai ra te iwi nui kei te po.

Nau mai ra te hunga ora.

Tenei Te Papa Tongarewa e kimi ana, e rapu ana i tetahi pouako kia whanake te kura, kia whai wahi ai a tatou tamariki ki nga taonga o te motu.

He waka akoranga | Empowering life-long learning

Te Papa is seeking innovative educators to contribute to the development of our learning programmes for ākonga, with a special focus on Kaupapa Māori contexts, Mātauranga Māori and Māori learners where ever they sit in the system.

You will empower our learners to engage with Te Papa's collections, exhibitions and resources by designing and facilitating meaningful learning experiences, resources and products for ākonga.

You will help us grow our learning communities and expand our reach and accessibility through learning.

You will work as part of a team to design rich and authentic programmes for ākonga with a priority on Māori medium settings.

You will design programmes that integrate Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, The New Zealand Curriculum and School/Kura specific curricula, te Ao Māori and Te Papa's taonga.

You will encourage and advise others on embedding Mātauranga Māori concepts within learning programmes, and help develop our relationship with kohanga reo, kura kaupapa Māori and kura a iwi.

The Learning team comprises of specialists across museum education including formal learning, early childhood, kohanga reo, kura kaupapa, primary and secondary school audiences, and Hīnātore.

Learning Specialists work closely together to facilitate a dynamic range of learning programmes for school and kura groups, onsite, on outreach and by digital delivery.

You will also work alongside Te Papa's staff in curatorial, collections, exhibitions and visitor services teams.

About you:

You are a passionate and talented educator who engages learning and technology to make a real difference to the communities you work with.

You are creative, innovative and skilled in supporting learning inside or outside of the classroom.

You are a strong educator, confident in working with groups of ākonga of all ages, and you have particular experience in working with or teaching in a Māori medium context or contexts where kaupapa Māori and Mātauranga is the focus.

You have strong networks and relationships in your field.
You bring a range of innovative learning practices and you create empowering learning experiences with emerging learning technologies. You're an advocate for learning and you're passionate about contributing to educational innovation. You're a lifelong learner with a growth mindset who enjoys creative problem solving. You enjoy developing new programmes and products, and you believe in testing ideas and experimenting. You're a team player with great ideas and the skills to bring them to life.

Fluency in Te Reo Māori, confidence in tikanga Māori and the ability to deliver programmes in Te Reo Māori to audiences of varying fluency is essential.

There is one permanent and full time (40 hour per week) role.

Other arrangements will be considered for the right person - especially for a kura based kaiako looking to reinvigorate their practice would be welcomed.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

About us:
