Mō te tūnga | About the role


As a Family-Whanau Liaison at IHC, you will play a pivotal role in providing knowledge, experience, and direction to families regarding the array of services and supports available in their community.

Your primary objective will be to empower families, enabling social inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

You will maintain a strong presence within the community, forging key relationships with children with intellectual disabilities, their families, external professionals and agencies, and government bodies.


Some responsibilities include:

  • Assess and address the specific needs of families and individuals, offering personalized assistance.
  • Recommend and implement family supports to improve overall functioning.
  • Secure additional resources to fulfill unmet family needs beyond existing services.
  • Provide support services according to individualized plans, covering family support, communication, skill development, and behavior management.
  • Facilitate workshops, deliver training sessions, and establish strong regional relationships to support family goals effectively while maintaining accurate records and adhering to legal requirements.

  • Proven experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing and nurturing community partnerships.
  • Extensive experience in training and development.
  • Deep understanding of familycentred practice and positive behaviour support.
  • Ability to connect with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Commitment to upholding the rights of individuals with disabilities and supporting them in achieving their goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and develop professionally.
