Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity


The Cardiology Department at Waikato Hospital is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Registered Nurse looking to progress into a Clinical Nurse Specialist role holding a shared portfolio for Cardiology Community Māori Liaison Nursing.


The purpose of the role is to provide culturally responsive and appropriate care using the principles of partnership and participation with the aim of eliminating health inequities and improved access to healthcare for Māori.

This role has a strong primary and community focus for providing specialist nursing care and expertise, both in direct care delivery and in support of other clinical staff in the management of patients identifying as Māori with cardiology disease who are being cared for in the community.

Mōu | About you


You will have an understanding of Te Reo and Tikanga Māori and a willingness to further develop knowledge in these areas.

You need to be self-motivated, highly organised, have excellent therapeutic communication skills, and are able to demonstrate competence and confidence in engaging with Māori whanau and communities in a mana enhancing manner.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Registered Nurse with a current APC
  • Completed a Professional Development and Recognition Programme at Proficient or above
  • In the process of studying towards, or completed a post graduate qualification
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Adaptability, flexibility and detail orientated
  • Ability to work independently
  • Current full driver's licence
