At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Senior Adviser will support the change and implementation of refresh of the New Zealand Curriculum.

Our design, pedagogical and implementation of materials, resources and engagement activities must help kaiako, teachers and leaders to provide teaching and learning programmes that reduce inequity and lift achievement and wellbeing.

The Senior Adviser will take a significant role in design and completing project tasks to deliver the refreshed curriculum.

Provides support, process development, contract management and provides centralised logístical support to specific work programme engagement events for New Zealand Curriculum refresh project.


They support the translation of high level policy and strategic intent into the change management planning, design of services, and implementation approaches.

This Wellington based role is fixed term until December 2026.

Mōhou ake | About you

We are looking for someone who is resourceful, able to work at pace and manage set tasks and projects, but you will also notice pressure points, take the initiative, and act.

Your personal qualities will include able use of research and investigative skills, taking pride in producing written work and other forms of communication of the highest quality every time, and have a proven ability to manage activities to get the job done on time.

In this role you will be expected to have the kind of interpersonal savviness that means you relate well with all kinds of people.


You will also offer:

Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team

Te Poutāhū provides strengthened and inclusive curriculum leadership, expertise and partnership for The New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and Te Whāriki, as well as providing expertise and resources for quality teaching.


On 24 January 2023, the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme was formed when the previously separate NCEA Change, and Curriculum Change Programmes were joined together under a single programme practice and governance.

These two major Programme areas have a clear purpose in what they need to achieve and are tied to both the Te Poutāhū and Te Mahau strategic direction, as well as Cabinet Decisions on the outcomes required.


The programme comprises a large and complex series of changes over several years that will be implemented in phases leading up to full implementation in 2027.

Delivery of the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme is currently supported by a mix of permanent, fixed term, and contract staff.

This provides the programme with the flexibility to access and organise the skills
