Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is being redesigned to reflect a more indigenous curriculum, grounded in te ao Māori, based on the conceptual framework Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura.

The framework stems from a Māori world view and reflects the values of Māori society and what whānau want for their children as Māori, and as global citizens.

It places ākonga at the centre of learning while recognising their place as mokopuna and ancestors for the future.

The Senior Adviser will support and lead initiatives to inform and progress the redesign of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, including the design, development and implementation of curriculum, teaching and learning initiatives for ākonga learning within Kura and Māori medium settings.

Mōhou ake | About you

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.


You will also demonstrate:

  • Te Reo Māori and/or Te Ao Māori experience is desired.
  • Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Experience in a complex organisation
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience Implementing design, planning and change initiatives
  • Experience with Contract management

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
