At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role:

The Senior Advisor will provide secretariat support to the Ministry's lead writer and expert writing group for the refresh of the New Zealand Curriculum.

The duties of the secretariat are varied and are particularly about overseeing effective processes that support the writing process:

it can include writing and editorial tasks, reviewing and synthesising research, analysing feedback, taking notes during writing-group hui, and responding to inquiries and requests for information.

Knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum learning areas is foundational to the task.

This is a Wellington based fixed term position until December 2025.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team:

Te Poutāhū provides strengthened and inclusive curriculum leadership, expertise and partnership for The New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and Te Whāriki, as well as providing expertise and resources for quality teaching.


On 24 January 2023, the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme was formed when the previously separate NCEA Change, and Curriculum Change Programmes were joined together under a single programme practice and governance.

These two major Programme areas have a clear purpose in what they need to achieve and are tied to both the Te Poutāhū and Te Mahau strategic direction, as well as Cabinet Decisions on the outcomes required.


The programme comprises a large and complex series of changes over several years that will be implemented in phases leading up to full implementation in 2027.

Delivery of the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme is currently supported by a mix of permanent, fixed term, and contract staff.
