The Team Leader position leads and manages the outputs of the Accounting Analyst Team who provide financial administration to the Non Public Fund (NPF) Committees.

The Team Leader reports directly to the Deputy Director, Defence Shared Services Group, and is responsible for ensuring a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment, as well as coordinating workflow and resource availability.

The Team Leader will provide guidance, training, coaching and mentoring to their team, ensuring the provision of a high-quality service in the administration of NPF resources to support the welfare and wellbeing of both current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families.

The position works closely with the Service Team Leaders and Non Public Fund Committees to ensure the integrity of actuals, budgets and forecast information of a high standard, and timely, accurate and integrated financial information and advice is provided to stakeholders and customers.


Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring high quality, trusted and comprehensive financial advice and support is provided to the committees and leaders of the NZDF, as well as ensuring all the NPFs are compliant with legislative obligations and internal NZDF policies;
  • Drive consistency and accuracy and a fit for purpose approach, with standards, formats, reports;
  • Lead the continuing development of the Accounting team;
  • Monitor and assess team performance to ensure that financial reporting and advice is meeting internal customer needs;
  • Lead and manage the provision of accurate financial information, including ensuring that all balance sheet reconciliations are completed;
  • Assist the NPF Manager with managing the external audit programme and coordinating the resolution of all audit management letter issues; and
  • Assist the NPF Manager with resolving technical financial reporting issues and taxation issues that arise.

You'll have considerable experience in managing the day to day operational requirements of an administrative/finance or support function ideally within a complex, service driven organisation.


Additional skills:

  • Team Leadership experience growing and developing talent to perform extremely well and achieve high level outcomes for the customer;
  • High level of Computer literacy
  • MS Office Suite and electronic Database Management systems;
  • Confident communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build sustainable professional relationships;
  • A flexible and adaptive attitude to the changing needs of the team, unit and wider organisation; and
  • Stakeholder Management experience providing feedback, reporting and advice to the Leadership team/ key stakeholders and input on improving existing processes.
