Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


This is a key teaching role in our tutorial team delivering courses in the Bachelor of Design and New Zealand certificate programmes and includes actively engaging in applied research.

The Bachelor of Design has a strong focus on facilitating learning development for industry.

Ākonga learn skills that involve practice-based research for the visual arts including digital media, design, photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture supported by professional and contextual studies.

Knowledge and experience in the following areas is desirable:

  • Tutoring and supervision of ākonga
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Practicebased research in the visual arts
  • Professional practices in the visual arts
  • Discipline expertise in sculpture/installation/spatial design
  • Community arts projects and practices
The wider tutorial team is responsible for the development of relevant, current, and challenging course content. Presently, the team is undertaking to increase Kaupapa Māori content in curriculum. Associated with this is a capability development journey for both the team as individuals and as a collective.

This role would play an important role in contributing to the growth of kaupapa and mātauranga Māori within the team and curriculum.

  • Current or recent experience as a practicing creative, including broad connections with local communities of practice.
  • Vision, innovation, and a commitment to facilitating own and others' learning.
  • Capable of supporting students to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • The ability to develop and implement flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently administer, organise and coordinate activities and meet deadlines.
  • Engagement with assessment and feedback processes.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Industryrelevant digital literacy (including Adobe CS and Microsoft office products)
  • Effective communication with a diverse range of others, at all levels within and outside the organisation
  • Capable of engaging respectfully and positively with whānau, 'āiga, communities from many cultures and diverse backgrounds at all levels within and outside the organization.
  • The ability to build and maintain constructive and cooperative relationships with academic peers as well as industry employers and policymakers.
