Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
The New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join the team of researchers working on a project funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund "Te reo Māori vowel sequences within and across morpheme boundaries".
The research team comprises Professor Jen Hay, Professor Jeanette King, Dr Forrest Panther (all University of Canterbury) Simon Todd (UC Santa Barbara), Márton Sóskuthy (UBC) and Dr Peter Keegan (University of Auckland).
The project looks at the acoustics of te reo Māori vowel sequences, and how this may be affected by variation in perceived intervening morphological boundaries.
Mōu | Who You Are
Applications are invited from researchers with expertise one or more of the following areas: te reo Māori, morphology, acoustic phonetics.
You will be conducting experimentation and statistical modelling, and experience or capability in both of these areas is highly desirable.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be employed by the New Zealand Institute of Language Brain and Behaviour, University of Canterbury and will be required to relocate to Christchurch.
Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With
We collect audio, visual, articulatory, neural and behavioural data on how individuals speak, listen, interact, and otherwise use language in their day-to-day lives.
With this data, we study the foundations of language as an integrated, multimodal, statistical system operating in a social, physical and physiological context.
We study the relationship between language and other modes of cognition and behaviour.We are interested in language development throughout the lifespan, in how non-language information (social, physical, contextual, visual) affects individuals' speaking and listening behaviours, and in how these ultimately shape the linguistic system.
