Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


This is a key teaching role in our tutorial team delivering courses in the Bachelor of Design and New Zealand certificate programmes and includes actively engaging in applied research.


Motion has a strong focus on content development for industry, students learn skills that involve illustration, 3D design, video production, animation, and game production.

Knowledge and experience in the following areas is desirable:

  • Tutoring or mentoring support of learners
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Illustration tools
  • Animation tools
  • 3D design tools
  • Game development tools 2D
  • Game development tools 3D
  • Experience in some of or all of the following software is desirable, however experience in other industry related software would be valuable: ToonBoom, Cinema4D, Blender, Construct, Unreal Engine.
The wider tutorial team is responsible for the development of relevant, current, and challenging course content. Presently, the team is undertaking to increase Kaupapa Māori content in curriculum. Associated with this is a capability development journey for both the team as individuals and as a collective.

This position plays an important role in contributing to the growth of kaupapa and mātauranga Māori within the team and curriculum.


Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • A degree in a Creative Design field or a related discipline.
  • Current industry/discipline knowledge.
  • An Ararecognised teaching qualification (where an appointment is made without such a qualification, the appointee will be required to obtain an appropriate qualification within five years of appointment)
  • A wide network of Motion industry and community contacts, including Māori
  • Current or recent experience as a practicing motion designer, including broad connections with local communities of practice.
  • Capable of supporting students to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • The ability to develop and implement flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently administer, organise and coordinate activities and meet deadlines.
  • Engagement with assessment and feedback processes.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Industryrelevant digital literacy (including Adobe CS and Microsoft office products)
  • Effective communication with a diverse range of others, at all levels within and outside the organisation
  • The ability to build and maintain constructive and cooperative relationships with academic peers as well as industry employers and policymakers.
  • Awareness and knowledge of current and future trends in motion design.
