The Māori Midwife Lead Consultant, is to work in partnership with the maternity multi-disciplinary team and senior midwifery team to support and establish a culturally responsive maternity workforce.

The position is about promoting and ensure the foundation of Tūranga Kaupapa Māori midwifery framework for service provision is embedded in clinical practice.

As our Māori Midwife Lead Consultant you will help by providing a focus on building relationships and engagement with Ngā Maia Aotearoa, Māori midwives, LMCs, whānau and the community.

The position requires a constant focus on delivering an equitable maternity health service to improve Māori health and wellbeing, to promote midwifery as a realistic and desirable career option for Māori, and to ensure and prioritise a focus on cultural safety and the provision of quality care within Wairarapa Ata Rauru (Wairarapa Maternity) Working in this position is about working in partnership with key stakeholders to support, inform and shape services that meet the needs of the Māori community.

With approximately 500 births each year, we are a small rural secondary unit with a multi-disciplinary team that is innovative and hard working.

Wairarapa Ata Rauru is a service that encompasses the care provided to hapū māmā and whānau in their home, hospital and community settings by midwives.
