We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Māori to join our Quality Systems team.

About Te Tāhū Hauora


Te Tāhū Hauora Health Quality and Safety Commission is a stand-alone Crown entity with a board responsible to the Minister of Health.

The Commission is responsible for assisting providers, both private and public, across the whole health and disability sector to improve service safety and quality and therefore outcomes for all those who use these services in Aotearoa New Zealand.

About the role


This position will be focused on supporting the provision of high-quality advice across the Quality Systems Group by facilitating matauranga, Kaupapa and tikanga Māori within the Commission.

This position will specifically support the building of the Quality Systems Group employee capability by actively supporting tikanga and a Te Ao Māori world view.


Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting quality and safety improvements: Providing quality and safety improvement support and advice using iwi and Māori best practice approaches.

Relationships and Partnerships: Initiate, develop and maintain relationships and partnerships across the health sector. Engage with iwi partners and Māori partners to proactively identify opportunities for improving the implementation of quality improvement initiatives using Māori worldview.

Reporting: Prepare and provide briefings, papers and project reports to management, governance, steering and advisory groups as required and provide input into ministerials, parliamentary questions, briefings and other requests for information.

Cultural Safety: Acknowledge cultural differences by respecting spiritual beliefs, cultural practices and lifestyle choices.

About you
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate that you have:

  • An understanding of health quality and safety issues facing iwi and Māori.
  • A deep understanding of the range of approaches to ensuring quality and safety are inclusive, purposeful and reflective of Māori and the lived experiences of iwi and Māori.
  • An understanding of quality improvement and patient safety principals and an openness to education and training in quality improvement theory, methods and tools.
