Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

MPI is looking for a new Manager Security & BCP to provide physical security leadership and management of a fun, fast-paced team of dedicated professionals committed to achieving great outcomes for MPI.

As the Manager Security & BCP you will be responsible for protecting MPI people, property, and assets through robust physical security measures aligned to the New Zealand Government Protective Security Requirements (PSR).

This position also manages MPI's Business Continuity Planning function and framework.

The key responsibilities in this role will be to:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key business stakeholders and MPIs managed security providers.
  • Understand what MPI needs to protect by assessing physical security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities and the business impact of loss or harm to people, information, or assets.
  • Implement secure by design consider physical security throughout the process of planning, selecting, designing, modifying, and updating facilities. Have a detailed understanding of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) principles and the ability to translate these into practical designs.
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the physical security (PHYSEC) components of the Government Protective Security Requirements (PSR).
  • Manage security incidents from initial triage through to closure, ensuring root cause analysis is performed and recommendations for improvement are identified.
  • Maintain and improve business resiliency and continuity planning across the Ministry to support the delivery of reliable and trusted services.
  • Support the Director Security and Privacy with development of security strategy, roadmaps, and reporting to central agencies.
Mōu - About You
We are looking for someone with a Recognised Certificate in Security and/or Business Continuity.

You will have a strong background in risk management and analysis, coupled with experience in managing security functions within an organisation.

You may be already in the Public Sector, or perhaps in the Intelligence field within the Private Sector and looking to step into the Government space.

You will also be a strong communicator who is agile, adaptable and quick to pick things up.

You'll possess a can do attitude, be a team player, strong on systems and processes, pragmatic and able to deal with ambiguity.

Other key experience and knowledge required for this position are:

  • Proven success in delivery on projects and/or programmes of work
  • Experience in managing internally focussed relationships and consultative processes
  • An understanding of the machinery of government, the Crown's obligations to Māori, and the role and work of the Ministry
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership

- most preferably a New Zealand citizen who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last ten (10) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
