Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Principal Adviser, Kaupapa Māori Research - 12 Month Fixed Term at Financial Markets Authority, Wellington Fixed Term - 12 Months Auckland/Wellington CBD location with flexible working offered.

Lead three research projects.
A great place to work.
With great work to do.

Our role (and yours) as a kaitiaki of the financial services in Aotearoa is to oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders.

Our role as a kaitiaki is characterised by the four principles of mana, manaaki, tiaki, and tika.

Understanding and applying these principles in practice helps us to embed our role as a kaitiaki into everything we do.

This role is part of a new Matangirua team that will help the FMA better understand Māori consumer and provider experiences in the financial services system, enabling our vision that more New Zealanders than ever will believe the financial services system is working for them.

You'll be joining our Research and Economics team, applying your knowledge of tikanga, mātauranga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in the leadership of three Matangirua research projects.

From design, through to reporting and dissemination.

Two of these projects will be short term case studies, while the third will be a longer study that will span the full year of the role.

This is a leadership role that involves conducting the research projects, presenting and communicating kaupapa Māori and Māori-centred insights to colleagues, senior management, external forums and other relevant stakeholders.

Your cultural and professional expertise will help shape the development of te ao Māori cultural capability within research and data governance at the FMA.

Your ability to collaborate will ensure the smooth planning and prioritisation of day-to-day work, and the delivery of high-quality qualitative and quantitative research.

Some travel will be required.
Thorough working knowledge of tikanga and mātauranga Māori, and basic understanding of te reo Māori.

Experience in Kaupapa Māori research and working knowledge of Māori Data Sovereignty principles with experience in applying principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in organisational contexts.

A strategic thinker with strong relationship management and group facilitation skills.

Depth of knowledge and understanding of historic and contemporary political, legal, social, cultural and economic realities for te iwi Māori with existing networks within te ao Māori.

Demonstrated project leadership experience with the ability to engage at all levels and in varying leadership styles to drive pragmatic solutions.

We offer some great benefits including a 4% Kiwi Saver contribution, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you.

We have exceptional learning and development opportunities such as access to expert leadership development, career and well-being support.

We believe a healthy work-life balance is important for everyone, so we have flexible working arrangement to support you in your life outside of work and have created a range of wellness and social activities for our people to connect and socialise.
