Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Kei ngā ringa auaha, kei ngā ringa hāpai o te ao Māori, rāhiri mai ki Te Papa Tongarewa

He tūranga tēnei mō tētahi e kaingākaunui ana ki te mahi tahi me ngā hāpori Māori.

Kua whakahaerehia e te kaitono ngā mahi o te uepū o te hōtaka tūmatanui me Te Papa Tongarewa ki te marea.

Te Papa is seeking an innovative kaupapa Māori producer to join the Public Programmes Team.

You will help us develop our offer for all audiences, with a special focus on working for and with Māori communities.

The Public Programming team creates opportunities for manuhiri and communities to have meaningful engagement across the breadth of Te Papa's activities.

As a Public Programming Specialist Kauapapa Māori, you will be responsible for the creative design, development, delivery, and evaluation of public programmes across the museum.

These programmes will enhance our offer for all audiences, with a particular focus on creating meaningful opportunities to engage with Te Ao Māori across Te Papa resources and collections.

You will draw on your creativity and experience working with whānau, hapū and iwi to engage Māori audiences in new ways.

You will lead on a range of kaupapa such as Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori with strong support from a dedicated team.

You will support our team to embed te ao Māori concepts within public programmes and help develop our relationship with iwi and new audiences.

You will also work alongside other staff at Te Papa such as Iwi Relationships, curatorial, collections, exhibitions, and visitor services teams.

About you:

  • You are an advocate for Māori communities and contributing to mātauranga Māori. You enjoy developing new programmes and products, and you believe in testing ideas and experimenting.
  • You have strong networks and relationships in your field and are skilled in supporting public engagement.
  • You have experience in creating and developing public programmes for a wide range of audiences. You are a passionate and talented producer or practitioner who brings a wide range of skills to make a real difference to the people you work with. You are a team player with great ideas and the skills to bring them to life.
  • You have project management and planning skills, and you are comfortable balancing multiple priorities. You're skilled at stakeholder management and developing partnerships and you will positively represent Te Papa. You love a creative conceptual challenge, and a strong understanding of promotion and digital engagement.
  • You are an open and collaborative colleague who contributes to highperforming teams to meet established objectives and develop innovative practices. You demonstrate a growth mindset, and you are calm under pressure.
  • You have knowledge of te ao Māori, confidence in te reo me ōna tikanga Māori and the ability to deliver programmes in te reo Māori.

About us:

Te Papa is Aotearoa New Zealand's national museum, renowned for being bicultural, research-driven, innovative, and fun.

Our success is built on our relationships with and our ability to represent communities who have connections to the collections in our care.

Our vision is for a Tiriti-based museum, where a collective commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is fostered and Māori exercise tino rangatiratanga.

About the role:

Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Prior to Te Papa confirming any offer of employment, pre-employment checks will be undertaken including police vetting and reference checking as a minimum.

Te Papa is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children.

Because a component of this role involves interaction with children, appointment and continued employment is at all times conditional upon the completion of a safety check and subsequent periodic safety checks conducted in accordance with the Children Act 2014 and the Children's (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children's Workers) Regulations 2015.

To apply, please provide a cover letter (1 page max) describing how your skills, background and experience fit with this role and a copy of your CV.
