Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role


The Principal Adviser Investment Management (LTIP) manages plans and resources to support the delivery of outcomes that are aligned to the Ministry's purpose and agreed strategies.


You will be responsible for guiding the development and implementation of the Ministry's financial strategy, establishing a long-term sustainable financial position for the Ministry, and developing and maintaining a comprehensive investment management framework.

This includes influencing the leadership team (LT), Treasury and other stakeholders in support of achieving our long-term financial goals.

The principal adviser also is required to contribute to a high performing strategic finance team that acts as a business partner and provides accurate, timely and expert strategic financial information, analysis and advice to support decision-making for investments and appropriation management.


We are seeking an outstanding finance professional who understands Government decision making and operating procedures and who can strengthen our ability to provide effective financial management and support the Ministry's financial strategy.

We are looking for people who are focused on process improvement and are keen to move towards providing a service beyond the purely financial.

Mōhou ake | About you


We're looking for an experienced Principal Adviser with excellent communication (both oral and written), stakeholder engagement and solid understanding of the importance of financial strategy who can provide effective financial support and sound advice to achieve the Ministry's long-term goals; has a good understanding of inputs and drivers that can help investment decision making.


To be successful in this role you will have a practical and positive attitude, a keen interest in understanding the little details that make the big picture achievable and the ability to build effective relationships and credibility with customers at all levels across the Ministry, team members and colleagues in Finance.


You will also offer:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Finance, Commerce or Business, Chartered Accountant status within CAANZ or equivalent is desirable.
  • Solid experience in strategic planning, public sector financial management and investment management, managing multiple appropriations and Treasury engagement/communications


Effective communication/Stakeholder engagement
  • Can effectively influence and provide specialist advice to senior leadership
  • Experience undertaking financial modelling and indepth or complex financial analysis
