The Portfolio and Performance team enables Transport Services to invest wisely and deliver the right things for Aotearoa.

The team provides clarity to the Transport Services group by agreeing and holding a 3-year national portfolio of state highway maintenance and capital improvement activities and reporting on our performance.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi At Waka Kotahi (the NZ Transport Agency), it all starts with our people and due to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity for a Principal Advisor to join the team.

Through this role, the Principal Advisor - Maintenance Portfolio will define and facilitate the process for regional delivery teams to develop 3-year and 1-year state highway maintenance plans and lead their moderation and prioritisation into an agreed national work programme ($1bn per year).

Working with teams across the organisation and with industry, you will monitor the delivery of agreed programmes and support them to resolve issues, adjust plans and optimise outcomes.

This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of our growing team as it shifts towards effective Portfolio management practices supporting the delivery of infrastructure and the core maintenance services work across the motu About you | Ko koe tēnei To be successful in this role you will have significant asset management experience and will approach your work with a keen eye for continuous improvement.

You will be a pragmatic problem solver, able to communicate the big picture "so-what" and collaborate to unlock issues in the details.


You'll bring to the role:

  • Significant experience developing, assessing and prioritising forward work programmes, preferably in a transport or infrastructure discipline,
  • Understanding financial investment tradeoffs
  • Adaptability, experience working in large and complex organisations,
  • Relationship management that has enabled you to influence without authority
  • The ability to present complex information in a way that is tailored to audience needs,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
