About the role


Workforce Management (WFM) is the crux of any organisation - it plays a critical role in enabling the delivery of services, or in an organisation like New Zealand Police, deployment of our frontline resources.

The purpose of WFM at NZ Police is to ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time.

The

Principal Advisor:

Workforce Management will provide advice and guidance to NZ Police leadership, Director: Workforce Management and the National Workforce Improvement Manager to promote effective workforce management practices and planning.

The Principal Advisor, supported by a Senior Advisor, will report through the Workforce Management Improvement Programme where they will bring their experience, knowledge, and skills to influence what the future of good WFM will look like.


The Principal Advisor will be expected to work closely with WFM Practitioners, WFM Leaders, Deployment, District/Area Leadership Teams and Executive members on strengthening the understanding and enable the maturity of WFM practices within Police.

They will also be expected to build partnerships across public and private sector organisations both in Aotearoa and internationally to help shape workforce management and planning services at NZ Police.


Alongside providing insight and advice on a range of workforce management matters, the Principal Advisor will be an expert communicator with experience facilitating effective problem solving and solution development for urgent, ongoing, or emerging challenges.

This also includes leading improvement work, developing the workforce management discipline and ensuring NZ Police WFM remains aligned to this, and any ongoing improvement work.


In the long term, after the completion of the Workforce Improvement Programme, it is envisaged that this role will work continue to support the Director: Workforce Management to drive continuous improvement activities, workforce management practices and provide leadership to workforce deployment activities as required.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the delivery of the Workforce Management Improvement Programme to enhance WFM services
  • Work collaboratively with WFM stakeholders across police to design and implement improvement initiatives
  • Engage, support and educate WFM practitioners and managers
  • Network with WFM managers across public and private sector organizations
  • Provide advice and support to senior leaders and managers on WFM matters
  • Grow relationships with key workforce enablers such as Deployment, Safer People, ICT and People Operations
  • Manage the continuous improvement of the WFM function at NZ Police

Workforce Manager will:


  • Have experience in workforce management and/or planning disciplines including (but not limited to) resource management, scheduling, roster management, workforce optimization, workforce analysis and insights.
  • Have experience in the engaging with diverse stakeholders' holder
  • Desirable experience and skills include: advising and guiding senior leaders, emergency management, consulting, analysis, project/programme management, facilitation
  • Be confident in identifying the rootcause of issues, codesigning solutions and implementing change
This role is set at

Team Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is "to lead the activities for Our Business and enable people to deliver them."
