Principal Advisor at NZ Ministry of Justice, Wellington City Principal Advisor role supporting the Director, Chief District Court Judge's Chambers Fixed Term to May 2025 Wellington Te Haeata/The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Chief District Court Judge's Chambers team as Principal Advisor.

This role is fixed term (parental leave cover) and will start mid-July 2024 and finish end of May 2025.

As a key member of the team, you will be supporting the Director across her responsibilities as Senior Responsible Owner for the Te Ao Mārama programme and in her role as Director, Chief District Court Judge's Chambers.

You will be proactive, able to juggle competing priorities, able to build and maintain excellent working relationships, and write information succinctly.

You will remain across key issues, risks and provide strategic advice and support as required.
You will also lead special projects as required.
We are looking for an exceptional person who has broad experience advising senior leaders with a can-do positive attitude.

You will be responsible for:

Leading the development of strategic documents and advice Providing timely and high-quality advice to the Director and judiciary as required Proactively identifying opportunities, risks and issues to the Director as required Building relationships and proactively developing networks across the Office and the Ministry of Justice Contributing to aligning work programmes and activities, key strategic programmes, justice sector partners priorities and the overall work of the Chief District Court Judge's Chambers.

The Chief District Court Judge's Chambers / Te Whare o Ngā Kaihautū Waka o Te Kōti-ā-Rohe o Aotearoa is a small team that provides administrative, advisory, operational and strategic support to the District Court Judicial Leadership team comprising the Chief District Court Judge, Principal Family Court Judge, Principal Youth Court Judge and the National Executive Judge.

This support enables the District Court Judicial Leaders to undertake their statutory and non-statutory functions and their overall leadership and administration of the District Court to ensure the delivery of timely, impartial and open justice.

Te Ao Mārama is a judicial led initiative that partners with iwi and communities to work with the court and justice sector agencies to ensure all court participants, including victims and whānau, can understand and better take part in the cases that relate to them.

It will benefit everyone who attends the District Court and draws on proven ways to reduce offending.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $128,129 and $179,192 based on skills and experience.
