Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Roles
Responsible to the Manager Learning Services, the purpose of the Kaitoko Ako Māori position is:

  • To provide learning support that is responsive to diverse learners needs, with a particular focus on supporting the learning needs of ākonga Māori across Ara | Te Pukenga.
  • To create positive, supportive academic learning environments (including groups, classes, 1:1 and flexible learning environments) and use effective teaching and learning strategies that support ākonga Māori success and retention.

Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • Sound knowledge of tertiary education, and in particular equity for Māori, Pacific and underserved communities.
  • Experience working with ākonga Māori
  • Experience working with people with low levels of literacy
  • An ability to respond to ākonga and tutor needs in a flexible, timely and culturally appropriate manner
  • Working knowledge of mātauranga Māori including te reo, tikanga and te ao Māori or developing knowledge in these areas
  • An ability and desire to work collaboratively with others, especially with fellow kaupapa Māori colleagues
  • Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills
  • Strong listening, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Digital literacy skills necessary to support learning
  • Advocacy, problem solving and negotiation skills that will directly benefit ākonga Māori
