Ko wai mātou | About our regionTe Mahau | Te Tai Runga is the key interface between Te Mahau - Ministry of Education and education providers, collectively providing leadership and integrated services to the sector and others.
It is our role to ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources that will allow our children and young people to reach their full potential.
We give effect to government and ministry policy and support education and community leadership within a self-managing system, to bring about the positive changes required to lift aspiration and raise educational achievement for all.
Mō tēnei tūraka mahi | About this roleThe Strategic Adviser Māori works to ensure an integrated focus on Māori achievement is delivered, understood and strategies are in place locally.
They support, programme, and operational functions, ensuring Māori needs and aspirations are at the forefront of decision making and operational policy implementation; leading the development of new thinking that will deliver equitable outcomes for Māori.
Working with iwi / imi, Ministry leaders, and staff, the role provides strategic focus and advice for the Director as part of the regional management team to:- help the organisation embed Te Tiriti practices into all activities and reporting roles
- accelerate Māori educational achievement, seek equity outcomes, and promote Māori identity, language, and culture
- lead and strengthen meaningful engagements and collaborations with iwi Māori and imi.
Ko wai koe | About you
This is not an entry level position; it is an executive level role and to be successful you will need:
- Proven confidence in leading with influence and effectively managing complex and dynamic relationships and environments
- Experience in embedding change management through a Māori lens
- Developed networks, credibility, and relationships with iwi / imi, and Māori organisations
- Experience enabling meaningful collaboration between the crown and Māori
- Ability to empower peers and colleagues to develop their cultural competence to support the aspirations of Ka Hikitia, Ka Hāpaitia the Ministry's Māori Education strategy
- Experience of working in a government organisation in a senior role
You will bring:
- An understanding of factors which influence Māori learner achievement and participation
- Passion to share your love of te ao Māori, te Reo Māori, kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori
- Experience in leading the development and implementation of strategies and projects
- Knowledge of the education sector would be an advantage
