Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role
Responsible to the Manager Learning Services, the purpose of this position is:

  • To provide learning support that is responsive to diverse learners needs, with a particular focus on supporting the learning needs of Ākonga Māori across Ara | Te Pūkenga.
  • To create positive, supportive academic learning environments (including groups, classes, 1:1 and flexible learning environments) and use effective teaching and learning strategies that support Ākonga Māori success and retention.
  • To work collaboratively with academic colleagues to ensure that academic literacies/numeracies are developed appropriate to the graduate profile, in a timely and contextualised manner.

Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • An understanding of the demands of a tertiary learning environment, particularly as these impact on Ākonga Māori
  • Experience working with Ākonga Māori
  • Experience working with people with low levels of literacy.
  • An ability to respond to Ākonga and tutor needs in a flexible, timely and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Working knowledge of how mātauranga Māori including te reo, tikanga and te ao Māori can be applied to enhance positive outcomes for all.
  • An ability and desire to work collaboratively with others, especially with fellow kaupapa Māori colleagues.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent listening, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of internal and external support services and how to help Ākonga Māori to effectively access them.
  • Advanced digital literacy skills necessary to undertake all aspects of learning development delivery including being able to trouble shoot and support basic access to Ara | Te Pūkenga 's various digital tools including My Ara, Moodle, and the MS suite of apps.
  • Advocacy, problem solving and negotiation skills that will directly benefit Ākonga Māori.
  • Experience in coordinating or leading projects or processes
