Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

The Senior Kaitoko will support the Kaitoko Matua in the operational leadership of the Kaitoko team, as well as the strategic development of the first year advising Kaupapa.

They will deputise for the Kaitoko Matua when necessary and will lead projects, based on their seniority and expertise, to enhance students' advising experiences.

  • A high degree of initiative and an ability to quickly develop effective professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with awareness of and sensitivity towards intercultural and intersectional diversity.
  • Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori.
  • Ability to build teams, lead change and resolve conflict.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the academic, social and cultural journey and needs of Ākonga Māori and Pasifika.
  • Extensive knowledge of UC environment, structures, people, policies and procedures essential.
  • Competency in the use of Dynamics 365 or similar customer relationship management platform.
  • Strong passion for improving and enhancing overall student experience, retention and engagement.
  • Contemporary understanding of the key policy initiatives that could impact upon the provision of student development services and overall student experience.

Minimum of 5 years' experience in:

  • Developing policy and procedures in a medium to large organisation.
  • People and project management or experience, with a high level of planning and organisational skills.
  • Working with academic regulations and policies.
  • Student engagement and service experience.

The Senior Kaitoko will be located in Te Pātaka, UC's student hub.

They will work with the Kaitoko Matua, the Amo Angitu Ako | Dean (Academic Success), the Kaitoko | Student Advisors, Māori, Pacific and Equity leaders, digital and technical experts, and a wide range of faculty and service unit staff across the university_.
