Mō mātou | About the Crown Response Unit


The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry (the Royal Commission) was established in 2018 to investigate the experiences of tamariki, rangatahi and vulnerable adults in State and faith-based care between 1950 and 1999.

It is due to provide its final report in June 2023. The Crown Response Unit (CRU) was set up in February 2019.

Our work is overseen by social and justice sectors Chief Executives, under the Ministerial leadership of the Minister for Public Services.

We lead the Crown's response to the Royal Commission, in collaboration with other agencies. We support government agencies get information and records to the Royal Commission in a timely and helpful way. We also support the Crown to respond to the Royal Commission's interim reports, including its interim report on redress. The report recommended creating a new, independent, trauma-informed, holistic redress system, which the Government has agreed to do. The redress work programme is a primary focus of the Crown Response Unit.

The Senior Administrator is responsible for providing confidential, high quality and efficient administrative support to assist the Crown Response in achieving quality outcomes, ensuring the processes that support the team are highly efficient, effective, and organised.


  • Providing administrative services, ensuring a high level of support is provided
  • Working closely with the PMO Manager and team members to maintain planning and reporting documentation
  • Providing administrative and logístical support to external stakeholders and Groups, while ensuring a mature, professional and sensitive approach is maintained
  • Coordinating meetings and events, including all logistics, travel arrangements and liaising with attendees

  • Experience in administration in a public and/or state sector environment
  • Excellent knowledge of administration policies, systems, procedures, and technology
  • High levels of organisational, planning and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative peer and stakeholder relationships
  • Calm professional demeanour, with the ability to maintain performance under stress
  • Effective organisation, planning and time management skills
  • Experience providing strong administrative services to managers in a complex and demanding environment
  • The ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner
  • An understanding and appreciation of crosscultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
