Bring your expertise and provide assurance to the Board and Senior Leadership, while contributing to the delivery of a large Land Transport Programme.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityIn this role you'll be working closely with the Manager, Treasury and Cashflow and our Team Lead while Collaboratively, supporting the development and delivery of the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP).You will be ensuring efficient allocation of land transport and other funding across activity classes and monitoring and reporting on the respective funding expenditure and forecasts.

You will also supports the development of the upcoming NLTPs both internally and with stakeholders such as MoT.

You will provide the Commercial & Corporate Group and Waka Kotahi leadership teams high level strategic and tactical financial advice together with technical expertise in managing revenues and cash flow.

Ko koe tēnei | About youTo be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A minimum of ten years' experience in the government, utilities, finance or related sector, with experience at a principal level
  • Significant experience in financial and cost risk management
  • Demonstrated numeric and analytical skills and understanding of the logic and risks behind the numbers
  • Confidence and ability to make decisions and set directions that withstand scrutiny and challenge
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and adapt to changes of direction or priorities
  • Experience in systems administration and financial management
  • An advanced proficiency in the use and manipulation of financial databases as well as Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point with a high level of qualitative skills with good understanding of financial analysis, good practice and methodologies.
  • Ability to deliver high quality outputs on time and to budget with sound experience in the analysis of programmes and projects.
  • People leadership experience highly desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mathematics with relevant experience and knowledge of accounting principles and financial business analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability working with a diverse range of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Experience presenting and facilitating workshops desirable but not necessary


You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Ko wai mātou | About usThe Treasury and Cash Flow team manage and oversee the preparation, monitoring and reporting of the Agency financial forecasts of expenditure to enable cash flows to be managed over a 1-to-10-year timeframe, with a particular focus on the current annual and National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) cycle.

The Investment & Finance group provides critical checks and balances to the Waka Kotahi's decisions and services - to ensure plans and investments represent best value for money.
