Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

As the trusted Subject Matter Expert in primary sector data analysis, data collection, and data quality, your role will be pivotal in driving evidence-based insights that lead to impactful advice for government leaders, industry sectors, and for our farmers and growers.

You will play a key role in developing cross-sector evidence and analysis, shedding light on the biophysical, environmental, and economic implications of land use policies and practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary guidance in primary sector analysis, data collection, and quality, offering insights that support evidencebased advice.
  • Policy Insight: Conduct expert analysis of existing and emerging policies, translating complex data into actionable insights for farmers, industry, and policymakers.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders across government, Māori communities, and industry bodies to drive collaborative solutions.
  • Team Empowerment: Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and shared success.

We're seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Principal Analyst to lead our Farm Monitoring and Benchmarking team in revolutionising analysis and policy development across our primary sectors.

Your expertise will help guide primary industries to prosper while navigating the transition ahead to lower-emissions operating models while accelerating economic prosperity for both Māori and Aotearoa.

Operating within the influential Policy & Trade Branch in the Strategy & Insights Directorate, the Farm Monitoring and Benchmarking (FMB) team provides insights, data and information that enhance our understanding of farm, orchard, and vineyard systems' performance.

Our goal is to provide informed evidence-based analysis and advice that helps us to understand the potential impacts of environmental and other policies.

As a Principal Analyst, you'll play a crucial role in driving this program forward.
