Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Analyst to join the Workforce and Workplace team within MBIE's Evidence and Insights branch.

The team's role is to provide insights that empower decision making to deliver a strong New Zealand economy and future for all.

You will work in partnership with the Manager and other Principal Analyst to deliver a work programme across our portfolios.

As a Thought Leader

  • You will provide strategic direction to the team's work programme, ensuring fitforpurpose products and services. As a Principal Analyst
  • You will lead a data and analytics programme that contributes to monitoring and research of employment activity in New Zealand.
  • You will work closely with policy teams to support the development of evidencebased policy settings to better respond to information needs of stakeholders. As a Technical Lead
  • You will work closely with Analysts in the team to maintain and further develop the team's data products and generate insights.
  • You will bring new ideas, techniques, and knowledge to improve the analysis and reporting of statistics. You will also enhance the overall capability of the team through coaching and mentoring team members during their daytoday work and against their longerterm development plans.

We are keen to hear from you if you have (several of the following):

  • An in-depth knowledge of data, research, technical or analytical disciplines and processes, including latest developments in techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of economic and labour market frameworks and/or workplace relations and standards.
  • Experience in successfully leading large and complex projects, considering both strategic and shortterm needs, using data from multiple sources and procuring data services.
  • Excellent communication, writing and coaching skills to embed a culture of excellence in the branch.
  • Experience in influencing policy makers and other stakeholders using a relationship approach.
  • Know the value of collaboration, confident in working with others with diverse skillsets and perspectives.
  • A tertiary qualification (preferably postgraduate) in a relevant discipline.
  • Must be a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident and be able to obtain a National Security Clearance.
