Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand He Herenga Kura Full time NZ$80,000 - NZ$120,000 per year

Mā te manaaki ka whai hua – Inspire whānau to thrive

At He Herenga Kura, our foremost commitment is to address homelessness and ensure whānau have secure, safe, healthy, and affordable homes. A home is more than bricks and mortar – it is a foundation for wellbeing, a place where whānau can belong, grow, and strengthen connections.

But housing is only the beginning. With over 50 years' experience in Te Whanganui ā Tara, we work with whānau and hāpori to ignite self-determination and build flourishing futures for generations to come.  Our wonderful kaimahi wrap every person and their whānau in a korowai manaaki – a living commitment of care, protection, and opportunity. Through support work, navigation, and advocacy, we connect whānau to services, walking alongside them in times of need.

Every action is guided by Āta Takepū – listening deeply, speaking with clarity, and acting with deliberate respect. Through collaboration with iwi, hapū, community partners, and government, we not only provide homes, but also create sustainable change.

In doing so, we honour our name – He Herenga Kura, He Herenga Tangata, He Herenga Whenua – a sacred connection that unites our people and binds us to the land.

Te kaupapa o te mahi

The Kāinga Pou Ārahi is responsible for managing the Property Tīma (up to 12 FTE) who oversee the acquisition and daily management of properties and ensuring the team has access to all that they need to succeed in their roles.

The primary purpose of the Property Team is to ensure our housing stock, whether He Herenga Kura owned properties or leased, are clean, safe and healthy environments.

Leading with a Te Ao Māori lens and understanding legislation, you will be known for building high-performing teams fostering a culture of safety and compliance. Understanding the diverse range of housing, social and cultural issues impacting whānau Māori in particular is essential in this role.

Ensuring the houora of our kaimahi and a deep understanding of the obligations of landlords and tenants as outlined in the Residential Tenancies Act will see you succeed.
