Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager – Full Time

Tauranga, Bay of Plenty

BUCO is looking for a commercially focused QS/PM to join our tight-knit Tauranga team. While we cover a wide range of work across the Bay, this role is aimed squarely at someone confident in commercial labour-only carpentry packages, charge-ups, fixed-price commercial contracts, and main-contracting support.

If you know your way around commercial tendering, can price accurately, and enjoy the fast-paced nature of labour-only packages and multi-stage commercial projects — you'll fit right in.


About the Role

This is a full-time, office-based role (no WFH).

You'll work closely with our directors, QS team, and commercial PMs.

Your main focus will be:

  • Pricing labour-only commercial carpentry packages
  • Preparing and managing commercial tenders
  • Charge-up and fixed-price commercial estimating
  • Procurement, take-offs, forecasting and variations
  • Assisting with main-contracting responsibilities where required
  • Commercial progress claims & contract admin
  • Running small–medium commercial tasks through to completion
  • Working with PMs, site leads, subcontractors, and major contractors

You'll still have exposure to residential, maintenance, and insurance work — but your core lane will be commercial QS and contract delivery.


About You

We're looking for someone who's confident in the commercial space first and foremost.

If that's where you've built your experience, you'll hit the ground running.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A degree or recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying
  • 5+ years' QS experience, preferably with commercial focus
  • Strong labour-only and charge-up pricing skills
  • Understanding of commercial contract structures and delivery
  • Confidence dealing with main contractors and commercial clients
  • Clear communication and the ability to build strong relationships
  • Bonus: Experience in project management and/or contracts management
  • Bonus: Ability to run smaller commercial packages independently
  • Must be based in Tauranga
  • Full NZ working rights
  • Solid, contactable references
  • Comfortable working full-time from our office

About BUCO

We're a down-to-earth Tauranga construction company led by Directors Liam Hesp and Colin Potgieter. Even with over 65+ staff, our office crew is small, collaborative, and easy to work with.

  • Insurance remedials & make-safes

But again, this role sits strongly in the commercial labour-only and main-contracting space.
