About the role

MacStrong Mentors is seeking a passionate and experienced Youth Worker and Partnerships Coordinator to join our team. This multifaceted role balances youth mentoring, business development, and relationship building with the goal of expanding MacStrong's reach and positive impact across Auckland communities.

This role offers variable hours (generally between 8.30am–8.00pm on weekdays and 8am–4pm on weekends), with the potential for one weekend day included each week. You'll travel throughout the Auckland region to connect with young people while also handling administrative work remotely. Hours may vary depending on the needs and availability of the young people, but you'll always be given plenty of notice if changes are required. This role requires a commitment to working when youth are most available, outside of traditional school and work hours.

Employment Type: 12-month fixed-term contract, full-time (40 hours)

Location:

Travel will be across the wider Auckland region, with a strong focus on South Auckland and the Franklin area, including Pukekohe, Waiuku, and surrounding communities, as well as central and eastern suburbs such as Mt Wellington and Onehunga. As this is a new role, a company car will not be supplied. However petrol will be reimbursed for milage used during work travel only. Admin work will be completed remotely.

What you'll be doing

Mentoring Young People:

  • Provide mentoring to a caseload of young people across Auckland, focusing on personal growth, life skills, education, and career development
  • Develop and implement individualised plans addressing mentees' needs and goals with a focus on positive outcomes
  • Maintain comprehensive case notes and participate in case review meetings
  • Lead small group sessions (2-3 participants) promoting social skills and other success criterion
  • Design engaging activities fostering positive relationships and teamwork
  • Facilitate youth-led initiatives that build leadership capabilities

Business Development and Partnerships:

  • Identify and pursue new relationship opportunities to expand our services
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community organisations, schools, and potential funders
  • Represent MacStrong at networking events and support grant applications

Program Development:

  • Contribute to new projects and relationships aligning with organisational goals
  • Recommend improvements to existing programs based on youth and stakeholder feedback
  • Stay informed of best practices in youth work and mentoring
What we're looking for

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in youth mentoring and/or social services
  • Demonstrated experience building professional relationships
  • Strong communication skills with diverse audiences
  • Valid full driver's license and ability to travel throughout Auckland in own vehicle
  • Clean police check and ability to pass safety checks for working with vulnerable youth
  • Strong technology skills across various programs and applications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in business development or partnership management
  • Certificate/Diploma/Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (social work, youth work, counseling)
  • Knowledge of Auckland community resources and services
  • Program development and evaluation experience
  • Cultural competence working with Māori and Pasifika youth
  • Proficiency with client management systems and Google Workspace
