About the role
We are seeking dedicated Kairuruku/ Registered Social Worker to work alongside matua whāngai (whānau caregivers) in a holistic, whānau-led, whāngai tamariki focussed response. You will be supporting the whānau through challenges that come with caring for whāngai tamariki. Advocate for, connect to and coordinate services needed to optimise the caregiving environment and circumstances.
The duties and tasks include completing assessments ensuring we are responsive to individuals and whānau from a kaupapa Māori worldview.
Key responsibilities include:
Building whanaungatanga with matua whāngai (caregiver of children in care)
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Oranga Tamariki caregiver social workers
Completing assessments and developing responsive plans from a Kaupapa Māori world view
- Tamariki focus – tamariki/ children are supported to reach their potential through safe, stable, loving and secure living environments and caregiver relationships.
About you:
To be successful in this role we are looking for:
- A relevant, recognised qualification (counselling, social work or mental health) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Knowledge and experience in trauma informed practice
- Excellent networking skills
- Competent in computer skills, verbal, and written communication skills
- Knowledge of proficiency in Kaupapa Māori approaches, Tikanga Māori and/or Te Reo Māori or the ability and willingness to learn
- Resilient and able to communicate effectively and respectfully in the face of difficulty and/or difference
