Organisation: Blind and Low Vision Education Network NZ

Location: Homai Campus, Manurewa

Hour: 5 hour per day role rostered between 7:45 am – 10.15 pm, Saturday and Sunday (School terms only).

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? BLENNZ is on the lookout for dedicated Youth Workers to join our vibrant team and provide exceptional pastoral care and Everyday Living Skills support for our Blind, Deafblind and Low Vision ākonga (students) aged 13 to 21.

At BLENNZ, you will play a crucial role in enriching the educational experience of young people in our residential and educational programs. If you have a genuine interest in working with adolescents and fostering their growth, this is the perfect opportunity for you

What We're Looking For:

  • Commitment to Pastoral Care: Understanding of best practices in pastoral care and a sincere desire to work with young people.
  • Experience Matters: Relevant experience or qualifications in supporting young people, especially those who are blind or have low vision, will give you an edge.
  • Relationship Builder: Ability to foster meaningful connections with ākonga while upholding professional boundaries.
  • Cultural Awareness: Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and experience working with Māori and Pasifika families.
  • Team Player: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively within a dedicated team.
  • Energy and Enthusiasm: A lively, outgoing individual with maturity, creativity, and interests that engage young people in active participation.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Initiative and common sense to navigate challenges as they arise.
  • Communication Proficiency: Excellent written and verbal skills alongside sound recording abilities.
  • Tech Savvy: Competence in various software applications to facilitate communication and documentation.
  • Physical Fitness: A good level of fitness is helpful for actively participating in ākonga programs.
  • Domestic Duties: Willingness to assist with some domestic responsibilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • A full, clean valid driver's license is preferred.
