About the job

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Business Development Manager to drive our growth and expand our customer base. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in elevating the customer experience, strengthening key client and business relationships, and identifying new opportunities across New Zealand.

You will be responsible for deepening relationships with existing clients, safeguarding and increasing revenue, and strategically pursuing new business to further expand our diverse and growing client portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Growth Management:

  • Identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities, develop strategies to meet client goals, and drive new business.
  • Proactively source new clients for Taylor Construction through cold calling and by following up on leads generated from office inquiries and industry contacts.
  • Attend industry events and networking functions to build relationships and identify new business opportunities.
  • Study competition to find new ways to retain clients and how to get ahead in the market.
  • Set sales and revenue targets and work diligently to meet them.
  • Create and deliver marketing and media content that brings the strategy to life and strengthens our brand presence across key regions in New Zealand.
  • Find key personnel in client companies to establish profitable relationships.
  • Approach potential customers to cultivate relationships.
  • Maintain and track new leads and clients.

Relationship Management:

  • Build and manage long-term relationships with clients through regular meetings, courtesy calls, and ongoing communication.
  • Act as the primary point of contact, building trust and understanding client needs, challenges, and expectations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by actively listening, addressing concerns, and resolving complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Manage client accounts, ensuring clear communication and consistent relationship management.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities by scheduling and liaising between Taylor Construction and clients for any post-project defects.
  • Handle client queries and issues once projects are handed over, ensuring smooth follow-up and resolution.
  • Support high-quality sales, supply, and customer service operations to maintain client satisfaction.
  • Identify client demands and develop effective strategies to meet or exceed their expectations.
  • Ensure both the company and clients adhere to the agreed contract terms and conditions.

Marketing Management:

  • Develop and execute a marketing strategy with a strong focus on social media, brand awareness, and attracting new clients.
  • Maintain and manage the company's marketing and digital media content to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with brand strategy.
  • Maintain Taylor Construction's social media and webpage, ensuring content is up to date and relevant.

Reporting:

  • Provide feedback, analyse trends, and report on client satisfaction and performance.
  • Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to understand the client's needs, preferences, and trends in the industry.
  • Collaborate with the management team to address clients' needs, trends with clients, and ways to focus on these trends.

Skills, Experience & Education

  • At least 5+ years of experience in a Business Development Manager Role, or similar.
  • History of effectively enabling and accelerating business growth.
  • Industry experience in property development and construction is preferred.
  • Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of business operations, revenue drivers, market trends, competitors, and customer needs.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, close deals, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing marketing strategies and content that effectively showcase the business and its key attributes.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise competing demands, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail under pressure.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities, including the capability to analyse data and market trends to identify business opportunities and support informed decision-making.
  • Experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution within a professional environment.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently at all levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Reliable, professional, and discreet when handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated relationship management capability, including managing complex client needs, maintaining positive client relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with CRM software and proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings and conferences when required.
