About the Role

The Chief Advisor serves as a strategic partner and problem solver for the Executive Regional Director (ERD), providing leadership, oversight, and high-quality advice to ensure the effective operation of the ERD's office. This role is responsible for:

  • Embedding Health NZ and Government strategic priorities into regional work programmes,
  • supporting the ERD in decision-making, and leading responses to urgent and complex issues,
  • connecting and facilitating key contacts, engagements and liaisons within the region and with key stakeholders to ensure the ERD has the right information at the right time

The Chief Advisor is a member of the Regional Leadership Team and is expected to maintain and enhance ERD services and support delivery against Health NZ priorities.

About you

You bring over a decade of experience operating within large, complex organisations where strategic thinking, sound judgement, and political nous are essential. You're adept at navigating multiple stakeholder relationships and professional expectations, providing strategic advice, and overseeing planning, risk, and accountability processes across multi-layered operating models.

Your background includes senior management experience in the public or health sector, giving you a strong grasp of the political landscape, machinery of government, and the role of Crown Entities. You're also experienced in governance and secretariat functions, with the ability to interpret complexity and provide high-quality advice on organisational governance matters.
