Cycling Southland is seeking an energetic and community-minded Development Officer to lead the growth of cycling participation across Southland — from grassroots engagement to developing pathways for talented riders and coaches.

As part of our dedicated team, the Development Officer will deliver school and community programmes, oversee key cycling assets, and support major events that continue to make Cycling Southland a national leader in the sport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grow participation through school-based and community cycling programmes, including Learn to Ride, BikeReady, and holiday activities.
  • Develop talent pathways for riders, coaches, and officials to progress within the sport.
  • Build partnerships with schools, local councils, and community organisations to expand access to cycling.
  • Oversee cycling assets such as the Tunatuna Pump Track, ensuring safety, maintenance, and community activation.
  • Support major events, assisting with planning and delivery across Cycling Southland's busy calendar.
  • Promote inclusion and accessibility in cycling, encouraging new people to get involved at all levels.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for cycling and community engagement.
  • Brings experience in sports development, coaching, or education.
  • Can build strong relationships with schools, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisation, communication, and planning skills.
  • Is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is flexible to work some weekends and evenings to deliver events and programmes.

Knowledge of event planning, programme delivery, and equipment maintenance will be an advantage.
