About the Role

In order to cope with our expansion, we are now looking for high caliber candidates to join our New Zealand team as a
Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
. The role is responsible for implementing and overseeing a company's anti-money laundering (AML) compliance program. The role will ensure a company's compliance with AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism) laws, primarily by overseeing internal controls, assessing suspicious activities, and reporting them externally to the NZ Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and Police, acting as the key link with regulators, handling CDD/EDD, and managing the firm's overall AML program and training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the firm's AML/CFT policies, procedures, and controls to meet NZ's Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act.
  • Receive, assess, and report suspicious transactions (SMRs) to the FIU within strict deadlines (e.g., 3 working days).
  • Serve as the main point of contact for regulators (like the Department of Internal Affairs) and law enforcement.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify control gaps, and manage the firm's overall AML/CFT risk profile.
  • Oversee Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes, including adverse media checks.
  • Investigate and resolve transaction monitoring alerts.
  • Promote a strong AML/CFT culture through training and awareness programs for staff.
