Mō te Tūranga | About the role:

As a Senior UX Strategist, you'll play a key role in shaping ASB's digital experiences for both customers and employees. Working across squads and tribes, you'll partner with multi-disciplinary teams to turn insights into intuitive, high-impact design strategies.

You'll be part of a dynamic UX team supported by experts in Service Design, Research, and Strategy within a strong Design Practice. Here, you'll deliver scalable, future-focused solutions, influence product strategy, mentor team members, and help foster a vibrant design culture.

In this pivotal role, you'll contribute to fast-paced technology transformation by defining the future of our digital experiences. Collaborating with stakeholders across the bank, you'll gain a deep understanding of customer and banker journeys to ensure our solutions meet real world needs and business goals.

Ō pūkenga | About You

  • You have 7+ years of experience as a UX Strategist, Service Designer, or Experience Designer in complex business, product, and service environments. You combine creativity with practicality, challenging assumptions and pushing the boundaries of experience design to solve real-world challenges in technology-driven contexts.
  • You thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, making sense of complexity through journey maps, prototypes, and personas, while applying data-informed decision-making. Your ability to see the big picture while managing the details enables you to influence strategy and deliver exceptional outcomes.
  • You bring:
  • Deep UX and CX expertise across research, design, and testing techniques, with proficiency in modern design tools.
  • Strategic and systems thinking, tackling complex workflows and multi-channel journeys to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, building relationships across cross-functional teams and leading workshops.
  • Business and digital acumen, framing customer insights in commercial terms and balancing user needs with technical realities.
  • Familiarity with design systems, accessibility standards, design principles and UX laws.
  • You're a self-starter, passionate about leading change, mentoring others, and championing the value of design.

A passion for simplifying complexity, with a keen eye for detail and a drive to innovate.

  • Hands-on experience across the full design toolkit includes research, workshops, interaction design and testing techniques that delivering insights that shape exceptional customer experiences.
  • Proven ability to tackle complex workflows and multi-channel journeys, contributing at a strategic level to refine customer experience journeys and product vision.
  • Skilled in working within Agile squads and projects, delivering solutions across web, mobile, and custom applications.
  • Effective at leading workshops, stakeholder sessions, and design discovery activities. Able to influence, challenge, and build relationships across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to frame customer insights in business terms and balance user needs with technical and commercial realities.
  • Enthusiastic about mentoring others, fostering design culture, and championing the value of design within the organization.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale platforms (SAP, Salesforce, Pega) and designing for accessibility.
  • Experience with omnichannel experiences, enterprise solutions for staff users, and technology transformation initiatives.
  • Financial services or regulated industry experience is a plus.
