Role:
This is a crucical Finance Manager role to support the business owner with day to day accounts payables & receivables and wider finance needs. Initially you will be hands-on with all aspects of the finance function, while you build out the team and move into a more strategic financial planning focus.
Ideally you will have experience working in the real estate industry or other similar industries industry operating with trust accounts, however this is not essential as the right candidate who displays aptitude for commercial business operations will succeed in this role.
You will be supported by an external company accountant and internal national CFO, as needed.
As a company with ambitious growth plans in the wider Canterbury & Marlborough regions, with plans to open multiple branch offices, this is a role with significant personal & career growth opportunities as the business grows.
Responsibilities will include:
- Initially, work directly with the Managing Director to ensuring smooth weekly finance administration functions, including: Manage accounts payables & receivables; Prepare commission payment statements for sales associates; Track payment of property marketing funds and property deposit payments into our trust account, and work with solicitors to obtain required paperwork for releasing property deposits.
- Payroll & GST functions; oversight of P&L and balance sheet reporting; some HR onboarding duties.
- Grow and effectively manage a small finance team that will undertake the day-to-day finance administration (accounts payables & receivables) so that you can focus on business planning.
- Work alongside the Managing Director to prepare weekly cashflow forecasts and prepare quarterly and annual business budgets.
- Undertake financial modelling to support business decisions with sound financial advice; work alongside the Managing Director to execute on commercial growth plans.
- Other ad hoc finance functions as required.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will be a strong, driven and experienced finance professional that is a quick learner with plenty of initiative. Ideally you are financially qualified with a desire to grow into a bigger financial role with our company over the upcoming 12 months.
Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to not only build and manage internal and external relationships but also ensure that our business financial administration runs smoothly.

Skills and Experience:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate / Advanced experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Confident, proactive and organised.
- Balanced and mature approach with the ability to demonstrate multi-tasking skills whilst also meeting key deadlines.
- Previous experience in a similar role Financial Manager or Commercial Manager role would be highly desirable.
- A strong team player who has a natural people approach.
- Must be comfortable working unsupervised and be self-motivated to meet key deadlines.
