New Zealand Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Full time
  • Work from your local Health NZ office – stay connected to your community while delivering nationwide digital health change
  • Be a part of our Digital Services team – shaping the future of digital healthcare for all New Zealanders
  • Permanent, full time role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Senior Delivery Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Aotearoa's digital health infrastructure. This is a hands-on delivery leadership position focused on guiding high-performing teams to deliver complex, business-critical infrastructure projects that underpin Health New Zealand's national digital ecosystem.

You will take ownership of the full delivery lifecycle — from early inception and technical scoping through to planning, mobilisation, execution, and the successful implementation of large-scale infrastructure change. Working closely with project managers, engineering teams, technical specialists, and a broad range of stakeholders, you'll ensure that delivery plans are robust, achievable, and executed with excellence.

In this role, you will lead and inspire delivery teams, drive clarity and momentum, and ensure critical infrastructure initiatives land successfully across a diverse and highly complex national environment. Your work will directly strengthen the resilience, reliability, and performance of New Zealand's digital health foundations — ultimately improving healthcare experiences and outcomes for communities across the motu.

Due to the December holiday period, this advert will remain open for an extended duration. Screening and interviews will commence from mid-January. We appreciate your patience and look forward to connecting with you in the new year.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Digital Operations team sits at the heart of Health NZ's digital world — powering the systems that keep hospitals and health services across the country running smoothly. We're the team behind the technology that clinicians rely on every day, ensuring critical systems stay connected, secure, and reliable. But our impact goes far beyond the hospital walls — we're building the digital foundations that strengthen healthcare for communities across Aotearoa. By driving innovation, setting national standards, and investing in smarter, more resilient infrastructure, we're shaping the future of digital health in New Zealand — and you could be part of it.

About you

You are an experienced delivery leader with deep expertise in managing large, complex technology projects and inspiring cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact outcomes. You bring a strong mix of strategic thinking, technical understanding, and people leadership to ensure successful delivery in a dynamic environment.

You Will Bring:

  • Extensive Experience: 10+ years in project, program, or delivery management within complex technology environments with the ability to assess scope, requirements, and financial impacts to develop realistic delivery plans and budgets for business case preparation
  • Proven Delivery Expertise: A strong track record of successfully delivering large-scale, complex technology projects or programs.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience leading and managing large, cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Methodology Knowledge: Solid understanding of both Agile and Waterfall frameworks.
  • Technical Background: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), as well as delivering network and communications projects.
  • Vendor Management: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with technology vendors and service providers.
  • Educational Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification
  • Agile certifications such as CSM or PSM
